What is Moonstone?
Moonstone is a natural variety of Feldspar, typically exhibiting the schiller effect in the form of flash. The shade of Moonstone crystals, as well as the color of their flash, varies depending on mineral inclusions within the stone. Particularly iridescent Moonstones are often used in making crystal jewelry, since the shining luster of the gem is incredibly eye catching. However, less flashy Moonstone specimens are also used to make crystal towers, palm stones, or gemstone spheres.
Different colors of Moonstone are referred to by different names, and have their own spiritual meanings. For example, bright white Moonstone, often included by Black Tourmaline, is referred to as Rainbow Moonstone. Warm caramel toned Moonstone is called Peach Moonstone. Soft grey Moonstone is known as Black Moonstone. Green Moonstone is the name used for flashy Feldspar that has taken on a minty tone due to Garnierite inclusion. Ivory shades of the gem are traditionally just referred to as Moonstone, or sometimes White Moonstone.
