Prehnite Crystal

Prehnite Crystal

Prehnite is a naturally occurring gemstone that can be found in a variety of shades such as gray, green, yellow, white, and colorless, ranging from mostly opaque to translucent. Most crystal collectors seem to prefer light green semi-translucent specimens, either as crystal clusters or as polished gemstones. Prehnite is a brittle calcium alumosilicate and can be found as a secondary mineral in mafic volcanic rocks, as well as in veins and cavities in low temperature hydrothermal environments, syenites, or granite gneisses. While Prehnite is probably best known for its bubbly, globular clusters, it can also be found in granular growths and even in stalactites. Prehnite can be found intergrown with other gems, such as Quartz, Calcite, Apophyllite, or Datolite (for which Prehnite is sometimes mistaken), and is often rutilated by straw-like growths of Epidote. Such Epidote included specimens are prized for their unique patterning, since the dark green streaks and splotches of Epidote within the lighter Prehnite can create gorgeous natural designs.

Prehnite is known as a stone of prophecy, used for facilitating divine visions, enhancing  intuition, and opening ourselves to hidden wisdom. For this reason, Prehnite is often kept at the bedside, as it is believed to promote greater control during lucid dreaming and a finer understanding of the signs and symbols within our dreams. It is a stone that heightens awareness, allowing us to recognize and interpret meaningful messages from the universe so that we can act in accordance with life's rhythms. When rutilated by Epidote, Prehnite's metaphysical properties are enhanced by Epidote's gifts of observation, perception, and introspection. Epidote allows us to access the Universal Consciousness and come to the realization that we are all one, interconnected. This expanded mindset brings with it a fuller capacity for love, compassion, and generosity, helping us to magnify and enhance intentions based in healing, altruism, and connection. Prehnite Epidote is widely considered quite beneficial for healing emotional and spiritual wounds as it opens us to greater awareness, support, and guidance from all of creation.
