What is Blue Calcite?
Blue Calcite is a natural gemstone variety of calcium carbonate. Calcite is a polymorph of Aragonite, meaning that the two feature the same chemical makeup, but different crystal structures. While Calcite crystals can take on many different shades, Blue Calcite is typically just as its name implies-- blue. Ranging from pale almost-grey to mellow azure shade, Blue Calcite may be semi-translucent to opaque and may feature inclusions or bands of other minerals. Since Blue Calcite can be found in branching growths intermixed with other materials, it can form striking patterns that have taken on names of their own. For example, Blue Calcite may be found together with Brown Aragonite, Blue Aragonite, and White Calcite, forming a banded multi-colored gem commonly referred to as Caribbean Calcite. Caribbean Blue Calcite is especially prized when the layering of the minerals appears similar to a beach scene. When Blue Calcite is found growing together with Green Calcite to form a gentle seafoam color, it is often referred to as Pistachio Calcite, Aqua Calcite, or Seafoam Calcite.

How to Cleanse Blue Calcite
We often get asked: Can Calcite get wet? As always with soft stones, we must advise against it. Blue Calcite is a 2.5 - 3 on the Mohs hardness scale, meaning that the stone is quite soft. Long-term submersion can result in damage to your crystal, so we must caution against resting your Blue Calcite in liquids. Of course, a quick splash or wiping with a wet cloth won't cause your Blue Calcite to disintegrate, but when in doubt, it's best to avoid water exposure altogether. Blue Calcite can be safely charged and cleansed using a Selenite tile or Selenite bowl, or by providing it with Full Moonlight exposure. Another entirely safe way of cleansing Blue Calcite is Smoke Cleansing using Sage, Palo Santo, Incense, or dried herbs. We always suggest these methods since they won't damage your crystal.
