Desert Rose Crystals

Desert Rose Gemstone

Desert Rose mineral formations are distinctive and beautiful, characterized by petal-like growths of Selenite, Gypsum, Celestine, or Baryte that typically form due to precipitate interspersed with sand grains. Because these formations are usually found in arid environments, such as deserts, and can generously be described as floral in appearance, they are commonly referred to as Desert Rose clusters. It is common for Desert Rose mineral growths to fleck or dust, as their blade-like formations can be brittle.

Are they Natural?
Yes and no! While the formations and gemstones themselves (Selenite, Gypsum, Celestine, Baryte, etc.) are natural stones, some Desert Roses are sometimes heat treated after collection in order to give them more contrast. For example, many Selenite Desert Roses and Gypsum Desert Roses which exhibit stark white edges to their "petals" have this appearance due to dehydration of the stone via heat treatment.
