These calcium carbonate stones, sometimes mixed with limestone or other minerals, can form intriguing tableaus in tones of light green, beige, reddish-brown, or orange, depending on the piece. Some specimens can feature stripes of clear or white Calcite as well, adding to the contrast and allowing for thin slices that are semi-translucent. All this being said, it is more mineralogically accurate to refer to Green Marble Onyx as a Banded Calcite or Banded Aragonite, since Onyx stones are primarily microcrystalline Quartz in the form of Chalcedony or Agate. Despite that, the name Green Marble Onyx is a moniker that sticks, as many collectors across the world use the term.
