Pietersite (pronounced pee-ter-site or pee-ter-zite) is a natural gemstone variety of Chalcedony with Amphibole fibers embedded at various degrees. This results in a rainbow of colors from grey to blue, yellow to brown, and even red, with high grade pieces exhibiting a chatoyancy similar to Tigers Eye. Because of its nature as an included gemstone, Pietersite's appearance can vary quite a bit, and tumbled stones of this kind are prone to texture, dips, and small caverns.

How to Cleanse Pietersite
A Selenite tile or bowl is an easy, safe way of cleansing and charging crystals, as is Full Moonlight, and so we always advise these methods since they are not harmful for any gems. Smoke Cleansing with Sage, Incense, or dried herbs is perfectly safe for your Pietersite stone, as is cleansing via the Dry Salt Bath method.

Since Pietersite is a gemstone comprised of Chalcedony and a variety of Amphibole minerals, the Mohs hardness of this gem varies across its surface depending on the rate of encapsulation, and can range from 4.5 to 7. For this reason, we strongly advise against long-term submersion in water for Pietersite (although it won't be hurt by gently wiping with a wet cloth or a short dunk) since prolonged exposure to liquid can soften the stone, making it easier to scratch or break.

We advise against Sunlight cleansing and charging your Pietersite for long periods, as prolonged UV exposure can cause the colors of some Amphibole minerals to change or lighten over time.
