Because of this, Tektites from different areas are given their own names to allow for easier identification. Moldavite is a name specifically given to olive-green or grey-green Tektites found along the Nordlinger Ries. This impact crater in Western Bavaria formed during the Miocene epoch and is incredibly unique, being the source of a strewnfield of Tektites that formed after the molten surface of the Earth mixed with meteorite material was flung across an almost 300-mile range. These Tektites, found mostly in the Czech Republic (with some rarer occurrences in Germany, Austria, and Poland), are Moldavites, showing off a highly bubbled and textured appearance due to the violent circumstances of their creation.
