Mahogany obsidian is characterized by a reddish-brown and black splotched surface, caused by small iron inclusions within the stone during its formation. As a Volcanic Glass, Mahogany Obsidian is a delicate material and can easily become chipped. Mahogany Obsidian is also known as Mountain Mahogany or Red Obsidian (although it should not be confused with Strawberry Obsidian, which is manmade).
