Black Moonstone Gemstone

Moonstone is a natural variety of Feldspar, typically exhibiting the schiller effect in the form of flash. The shade of Moonstone crystals, as well as the color of their flash, varies depending on mineral inclusions within the stone. Particularly iridescent Moonstones are often used in making crystal jewelry, since the shining luster of the gem is incredibly eye catching. However, less flashy Moonstone specimens are also used to make crystal towers, palm stones, or gemstone spheres.

Different colors of Moonstone are referred to by different names, and have their own spiritual meanings. Black Moonstone is sometimes referred to as Grey Moonstone or Gray Moonstone, depending on the depth of its color. These terms are sometimes used by collectors when referring to Larvikite or Labradorite, as well, although these stones are mineralogically distinct unto themselves, and are not the same as Black Moonstone, despite being feldspar-based and exhibiting the schiller effect.

Black Moonstone Meaning and Metaphysical Properties
While all forms of Moonstone are strongly associated with the Water Element, the Third Eye Chakra, the Divine Feminine, and spiritual growth, Black Moonstone brings its own influence when used in crystal magic. Known as a gem of hidden truths, Black Moonstone assists us in uncovering knowledge, but also in keeping our secrets from being unearthed by others. It is a great crystal for illusion work, shrouding the aura from prying eyes, and preventing malicious interference in our plans and magical workings. Black Moonstone has traditionally been used as a stone for protecting lovers, keeping confidences that are shared with us, and inward journeys. Since it resonates well with the Root Chakra in addition to the Third Eye Chakra, Black Moonstone is sometimes used to instill a peaceful, harmonious inner landscape so we can let the little troubles and anxieties of life wash away, giving us the opportunity to focus on more important things.  Particularly when it comes to maintaining mental and emotional flexibility, Black Moonstone can be helpful, making it a beneficial focal stone for shadow work.
