What is Fuchsite Mica?
Fuchsite is a naturally green gemstone whose hues can range from a seafoamy light green to a deep forest green. It is sometimes referred to as Chrome Mica, Green Muscovite, or Muscovite Mica. In its raw state, since it's a form of Mica, Fuchsite can easily flake or leave flecks behind when handled and is extremely soft (2-2.5 Mohs hardness). Found within Quartz, however, it gains some protection and a more robust structure. Fuchsite in Quartz can cause gorgeous internal glittering, depending on the size and structure of inclusions. A high rate of Fuchsite inclusion with visible Mica flakes throwing glimmers from within, as well as varieties where microscopic Fuchsite inclusions only lend the Quartz a gentle green hue, are traditionally referred to as Green Aventurine or Fuchsite Quartz. When the Fuchsite forms splotched patterns among white Quartz, this variety is typically marketed as Snowflake Fuchsite, Fuchsite Quartzite, or Emerald Fuchsite in Quartz (although there is no Emerald present in the stone and the term is only used to describe the Fuchsite's color). Fuchsite is also prone to intergrowth with Ruby corundum, which usually presents with pink-to-maroon splotches of Ruby in seafoam colored Fuchsite (sometimes with cream colored halos around the corundum inclusions).
