What is Zoisite?
Zoisite is a natural calcium and aluminum silicate mineral. As a polymorph of Clinozoisite, Zoisite shares that same chemical makeup but a different crystal structure. Although Zoisite can be found in various shades from colorless to to violet and as orthorhombic crystals or as masses in crystalline schists, most crystal collectors will be most familiar with it as green Zoisite's massive coarse-grained version, often found with black Amphibole minerals present (typically dark Pargasite). This is because green Zoisite in this form can sometimes be found with intergrowths of Ruby corundum, creating a striking contrast between the two gems. Zoisite with Ruby is typically called Ruby Zoisite, but is also called Ruby in Zoisite or Zoisite Ruby.
