What is Strawberry Quartz?
Strawberry Quartz is a natural crystal: a variety of Quartz containing tine, fine-grained Hematite inclusions that form specks or streaks of color within the gem. Although the color of Strawberry Quartz is sometimes attributed to Lepidocrosite inclusions, this has not been confirmed. Hematite occurs far more often within Quartz and provides the pink, mauve, and red tones found in Strawberry Quartz. We are often asked: Is Strawberry Quartz natural? This is likely because the natural gem is being confused with manmade Strawberry Obsidian, aka Cherry Quartz, which is also known as Red Smelt Quartz. It must be noted that Strawberry Quartz is a naturally occurring crystal, and is not the same as manmade Strawberry Obsidian.

How to Cleanse Strawberry Quartz
While Quartz crystals are generally water safe, the presence of Hematite inclusions within this gem make us hesitant to endorse water cleansing for this stone. Depending on the rate of encapsulation, water exposure to the Hematite inclusions may cause rust to form on or within your Strawberry Quartz stone if it is submerged for long periods. We always suggest a Selenite bowl or tile, or Full Moonlight exposure, for cleansing and charging crystals since these methods will not cause any damage to your gem. Smoke Cleansing with Sage, Incense, or dried herbs is another safe way to cleanse your Strawberry Quartz crystal.
