ellow Obsidian: Stone of the Sunny Disposition
Yellow Obsidian is a manmade gemstone (similar to Opalite) whose cheery tones have made it a favorite for home decor and spiritual uses. Associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra, Third Eye Chakra, and Crown Chakra, the meaning of Yellow Obsidian is open mindedness and a greater awareness of sources of joy. This makes it a wonderful stone for meditation on gratitude, mindfulness, and optimism. It is known as a gem for dissolving negative energy, preventing malicious intentions and thoughts from taking root, so it is often carried by those who must face stressful situations or toxic people daily.
Where Does Yellow Obsidian Come From?
Yellow Obsidian is entirely a product of mankind! It is not naturally occurring, and every piece of Yellow Obsidian was created by human ingenuity. Natural Obsidians (such as Black Obsidian, Snowflake Obsidian, Mahogany Obsidian, Gold Sheen Obsidian, and Rainbow Obsidian) are formed through volcanic activity, but Yellow Obsidian -- and indeed, all transparent Color Obsidians -- are not made by Mother Earth. This means that Yellow Obsidian comes from all over the world, but it is sourced from workshops rather than mines. Much like other manmade gems (like Opalite or Goldstone), Yellow Obsidian may feature internal bubbles and variations in color since no two workshops create the same exact color.
How to Cleanse Yellow Obsidian
Although Sunlight cleansing and charging is tempting because Yellow Obsidian catches the light so well, it should be used sparingly since consistent sunlight exposure can cause some pieces to lighten in color. Water cleansing is completely safe for Yellow Obsidian, as is Smoke Cleansing with Sage, Incense, or Dried Herbs. Full Moonlight cleansing is a perfectly safe way to cleanse and charge this stone as well, and is one of our favorite methods alongside Selenite.
Dry Salt Cleansing is not advised for Yellow Obsidian since as a form of manmade glass it may take on scratches from coarse salt.
