What is Pink Opal?

Pink Opal is a natural variety of Opal gemstone. Common Pink Opal specimens do not feature flash, and can occur as silicified palygorskite or opalized radiolarite, sometimes with minor inclusions of Chalcedony. The color of Common Pink Opal ranges from a pale beige to blush pink, and may feature layering between shades. This lovely pink hue is caused by Manganese in specimens sourced in Australia, whereas Pink Opal stones mined from Mexico or Peru cite the cause of the pink color as quinones within the gem.

How to Cleanse Pink Opal

As with all Opal stones, it's important to know what kind of Pink Opal you have before submerging it in water, since this can cause color and clarity changes in the gem. Most Opal stones need water every now and again, but for Pink Opal tumbled stones, towers, and jewelry it's advised to gently dampen them every so often with a soft, moist cloth rather than soaking the stone in water. Remember that you should avoid touching your Pink Opal if you have oil, lotion, or hand sanitizer on your fingers, since these can cause discoloring and clouding over time. Pink Opals should never be subjected to harsh cleansers or abrasive materials, and long periods of sun exposure should also be avoided, since high temperatures may cause the stone to become brittle or even crack. When it comes to spiritually cleansing and charging your Pink Opal, we always suggest the use of a Selenite tile or Full Moonlight exposure, since these methods will not damage your stone. Another safe way to spiritually cleanse Pink Opal is by Smoke Cleansing with Sage, Incense, dried herbs, or Palo Santo, though your stone should be kept well away from flame or intense heat while doing so.
