Seraphinite is a variety of chlinochlore, which is a variety of chlorite. Seraphinite derives its name from its chatoyance. As a pale green to dark green stone with flashes of silvery “feathers”. It looks like swirls and ripples that resemble wings through the green stone, giving the gemstone its name, derived from the word "Seraphim". Due to its growth patterns, Seraphinite is prone to natural pits and caverns, which make its flashes all the more startling and eye-opening.
As a variety of clinochlore, seraphinite is generally an incredibly soft stone, ranking only about a 2–2.5 on the Mohs scale. This makes it a fairly poor choice for jewelry, as it will be suspectable to damage, abrasion, and cuts.
There are not any uses that we could find for seraphinite. Even jewelry tends to be limited because it is a very soft stone. However, cabochons or tumbled stones tend to work for displays, as they are less likely to receive damage there.
