Rhodonite derives its color from the presence of Manganese and Iron, resulting in warm, earthy tones that are often mixed with black dendritic inclusions. Rhodonite, Vittinkiite, and Ferrorhodonite all belong to the Rhodonite group and are often interchangeably referred to as Rhodonite, particularly in instances of intergrowth. Rhodonite can present in tones from vibrant red to orange-red, all the way to grey-brown, depending on its quality and amount of Manganese, and is a polymorph of Pyroxmangite. Vittinkiite, found in light pink massive granular aggregates, is often called Pink Rhodonite and is easily mistaken for pink Rhodochrosite. Ferrorhodonite, due to its higher iron content, presents as reddish-brown or muted mauve, and is sometimes called Brown Rhodonite.
