Snowflake Obsidian, sometimes called Flower Obsidian, is a natural volcanic glass whose grey flecked pattern comes from inclusions of Cristobalite, a silica polymorph. Like all types of natural Obsidian, Snowflake Obsidian is formed in the latest stages of volcanic eruptions and is considered a rock rather than mineral. Snowflake Obsidian's patterning can vary quite a bit, depending on the amount of Cristobalite present, with some pieces being primarily Black Obsidian with only a few small flecks of Cristobalite. Other pieces may be primarily grey, with only hints of the Black Obsidian underneath showing through. This makes each piece of Snowflake Obsidian unique!
