Unakite stone, sometimes called Unakite Jasper, is a natural metasomatic rock. Mostly comprised of Epidote, Pink Orthoclase Feldspar, and Quartz, Unakite is usually formed by the alteration of granitic rocks. The green portion of Unakite is Epidote while the pink or orange is Orthoclase Feldspar. Since Unakite is marked by the intergrowth of these two stones, its colors can range from light to deep, and the amount of Pink Orthoclase Feldspar versus green Epidote varies from piece to piece. Although it is sometimes referred to as Unakite Jasper, Unakite is not a Jasper at all, and falls into a category we refer to as Honorary Jaspers: gemstones that often get the Jasper name applied even though they do not fit the mineralogical requirements to be a proper Jasper.
